Hotline Slot Demo Review: Features, Bonus & RTP

There is no question as to where this game's inspiration came from. Yes, Miami Vice—you guessed it! With a nice start and clips interspersed throughout the game, this slot is very much constructed like a videogame. It's undeniable that NetEnt has succeeded in capturing a sense of speed, action, and nostalgia for the 1980s.

With its five reels, three rows, and thirty paylines, it appears to be a normal setup at first. However, NetEnt is experimenting here and launching a brand-new function called Bonus Bet.

A Hotline Slot is a row that the player selects, and Wilds that land on that row expand to fill the entire reel and stick during Re-Spins. The extended Wilds remain active throughout the full round of free spins, which creates the utmost excitement.

Players can engage the Hotline Bonus Bet feature and select extra Hotlines for an additional wager to boost their chances of winning Expanding Wilds and Re-Spins on two rows, or up to three rows for the best possibilities of covering all the reels with Wilds.

Hotline Slot: Features

Expanding Wilds and Re-Spins are more likely to be won when using the Hotline Bonus Bet feature. Each row contains a Hotline. Each Hotline can be turned on or off at the players' discretion. One Hotline is constantly active.

The game is played with Base Bet when one Hotline Slot is engaged (15 coins per bet level). Double Bet (30 coins per bet level) is used when two Hotlines are activated, while Triple Bet is used when three Hotlines are activated (45 coins per bet level). Expanding Wilds and the likelihood of winning Re-Spins increase with the number of Hotlines that are active.

In the base game, re-spins, and free spins, wild symbols can occur anywhere on the reels and can replace all other symbols other than scatter symbols. A Wild symbol that lands on a Hotline that has been activated enlarges to fill the entire reel. Wild and Increasing According to the Paytable, substituting a wild symbol pays the maximum possible winning combination on a bet line.

If a Wild symbol appears on an activated Hotline Slot in the base game or during a Re-Spin, it grows to cover the entire reel and, following the evaluation of all winnings, grants a Re-Spin.

Up until the ReSpins are over, the Expanding Wild is still present on the reels. If no more Wild symbols appear on an active Hotline, the re-spins come to a conclusion.

In the main game, three Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels 1, 3, and 5 trigger seven free spins. If a Wild symbol appears during Free Spins on an active Hotline, it expands to fill the entire reel and stays there until the end of the round. Free Spins cannot be used to earn more free spins. The Re-Spins do not allow for the activation of Free Spins.

Hotline Slot: Verdict

There is no denying that Hotline is a well-made game. The games from NetEnt are beginning to resemble video games more and more, indicating that they have seemingly invested significant money into their creations. But attractive slots fall short if they lack strong game mechanics and promise, and we're not sure that's the case here.

With extended wilds filling the entire screen, the maximum win from a single spin seems to be just 400x. It might theoretically pay 2,800x, but that would require triggering every wild in the bonus round since these are sticky.

When the game was being tested, it didn't take long to activate the first bonus, which paid about 50 times. From there, things just got worse. The only thing that keeps this game remotely intriguing is the Re-Spin function, which is available in both the main game and the bonus round. However, the symbols are low paying, and there isn't much reason to be enthusiastic about the game's possibilities.

The maximum win on this machine is €60,000, or €2,000 per bet line (30 bet lines). In contrast, the RTP in this game fluctuates according to the quantity of Hotlines activated: Hotlines 1, 2, and 3 all recorded 96.13%, 96.70%, and 97.04% respectively.
